At 2018 Linda has become an elected member of Society of Canadian Artists.
Linda Chen is a Taiwanese Canadian visual artist based in Toronto. She makes art that captures the merging of her Eastern and Western worlds, whether celebrating harmonies or expressing tensions. In her drawings, paintings, and prints, she mainly draws from the negative spaces and loose lines of East Asian brush paintings and the rich colours and playful movements of the Impressionist art movement – a visual aesthetic that reveals insight into her personal cultural identity. Linda was born in Taiwan in 1961, graduated with a BA in English Literature, and worked for IBM Taiwan before immigrating to Canada in 1996. Linda has loved making art since she was a child, but never had the opportunity to pursue art seriously until she started a new life in a new country. While painting murals on her bathroom walls for fun she thought, "If I can paint on walls, maybe I can paint on canvases!" So far, she is very happy about where it has taken her. After years of practicing art on her own, Linda became a student at the Toronto School of Art in 2006 and graduated with a Fine Arts Diploma in 2010. This new learning experience opened her eyes to the art world and allowed her to meet new friends from different communities with whom she shared the same passion. This was a wonderful new experience to her as an immigrant, which inspired her to write a series of short articles in Chinese as a way of encouraging other immigrants to reach out to different local communities. Apart from her own projects, Linda regularly participates in group and juried exhibitions, occasionally speaks at events, and is part of an artist group called Painters 6. Her work has been exhibited at various Canadian art galleries, including the Propeller Art Gallery, John B. Aird Gallery (Toronto), the Latcham Gallery (Stouffville), the McMichael Gallery (Kleinburg), and the Ontario Science Centre's Idea Gallery (Toronto). At 2018 Linda has become an elected member of Society of Canadian Artists (SCA). |
對陳岳琳而言，藝術創作主要是表達她的"當東方遇見西方時"的思想與感情。無論是表達和諧美好或文化衝突，她使用不同的藝術媒介和風格，將她的思緒化為視覺表現。她特別喜歡東方水墨畫的留白格局和線條勾勒，以及西方印象派畫風的豐富創意和色彩表現。經過多年的探索，融合東方與西方的藝術特色，造就了她特殊的文化風格。
加拿大多倫多藝術家陳岳琳，1961年出生於臺灣，長於臺北，大學畢業於東吳大學英語學系。在1996年移民至加拿大前曾任職於臺灣IBM公司。她從小對藝術情有獨鍾，大學時期曾跟隨名畫家梁丹丰教授學習鉛筆素描和水彩畫。追尋藝術的夢想，一直到踏上移民新旅程才得以再次落實。某天，當她粉刷浴室牆壁時得到一個心得：如果我可以用油漆，那我應該可以畫油畫。到目前為止，她對這個連續發展的結果感到滿意！ 多年的自我學習之後，陳岳琳於2006年成為 Toronto School of Art 的學生，並於2010年畢業。這個全新的學習經驗打開了她的藝術視野，並結交了一群文化及背景各異的藝術愛好者。對於一個移民而言，這是個難得美好的經驗，促使她寫了一系列文章與大家分享，並希望藉由這些經驗，鼓勵移民朋友們參與社區活動。 過去幾年，陳岳琳活躍的參與加拿大安大略省的都會藝文活動。除了自己的創作系列外，更積極參加各類團體展和評審展，並是安省畫會 Painters 6 的成員。她的作品陸續在省內各處展出，其中包括了：Propeller Art Gallery, John B.
